UNCONVENTIONAL WISDOM COLLECTION: Queer Brilliance Edition

01: Seeing Into My Pretty Eyes by Dr. Shannon Michael Pater

My friend and colleague wrote this moving blog post where he reflected on his mother’s love, the pain she carried, and his process of listening for wisdom amidst the heartache.

“Maybe there was something in my persistent plea. Maybe there was something irresistible and inviting in the length of my eyelashes — she always said I had moo-cow lashes. Maybe it was, after all, Maybelline. Whatever it was that prompted her, I’ve come to believe it was a piercing moment, a disruption of her defenses that protected her deeply wounded sense of mothering — it was a sudden flash when she was the mother she craved for herself and that she desperately wanted to be to me.”
