UNCONVENTIONAL WISDOM COLLECTION: Queer Brilliance Edition
04: Lifeboats, a short film by B.T. Harman & Preston Summerow

In this poetic short film, B.T. Harman offers wisdom on how to receive a loved one. This is adapted from his own coming-out story in Blue Babies Pink. The video was produced by Preston Summerow. You’ll need tissues for this one.

“Know that by the time they get to you, they’ll have mustered every last ounce of courage and buried lots of worry. In fact, getting to your doorstep might be the hardest part of their quest, yet.”

“Love is the prayer that scares away dark shadows anywhere. As long as they are breathing, you will be their harbor.”

B.T. Harman

This post is a part of a collection of artistic expressions highlighting wisdom from queer voices that have called me to deeper soul attention.

What does it stir in you?

I’ve written about what it was like when my kid came out to me when they were 17. You can read that here.

Would you like some company or gentle guidance as you listen for wisdom and explore new ways of engaging with your soul? Kirsten offers spacious accompaniment and trauma-informed spiritual direction. I’d love to hear what’s stirring in you and meet with you for a free exploration session.
